Stilzitten was niets voor hem. Samen met een handvol vrienden hield hij van ravotten, klauteren, soldaatje of cowboy en indiaan spelen. Het bos was zijn speelveld en de bomen vormden het decor. “We waren ridders en bouwden een kasteel met uitkijktoren als kamp hoog in de bomen. We voelden ons zo vrij als een vogel en de tijd had geen vat op ons.” Jaren gingen voorbij. Dominique werd ingenieur en leerde Karin kennen. Zij was full time verpleegkundige en beiden hielden ervan om geregeld te reizen en te ontsnappen aan de “ratrace” van onze maatschappij. Herbronnen en ontspannen in de natuur stonden centraal. De geur van het bos, het fluiten van de vogels en de charme van een verblijf in een houten hut in Frankrijk deden Dominique zijn jeugdherinneringen weer oplaaien. Na een hutten avontuur besloten zij samen met hun twee zonen, Kobe en Seppe, hun droom te verwezenlijken in de Belgische Ardennen. Het ligt in Soy een deelgemeente van Erezee. Het dorpje is een prima uitvalsbasis om dit gedeelte van de Ardennen te verkennen. Vanuit je vakantiehuis in dit landelijke dorpje kun je de toeristische plaatsen Hotton, Barveaux en Durbuy bezoeken. Wandelen in de prachtige omgeving van Biron, het bezoeken van grotten (Hotton), kapelletjes en kastelen bezichtigen behoort allemaal tot de mogelijkheden. Ook kun je sportief actief zijn, denk dan aan raften, rotsklimmen, mountainbiken, paardrijden en vissen op forel. Ook op culinair gebied is het goed toeven in dit deel van de Ardennen. Qui somme nous Dès son plus jeune âge Dominique était aventureuse et passionné par la nature et la forêt. Rester assis n’était quasiment impossible pour lui. Avec une poignée d’amis il aimait se défouler, courir et grimper, jouer au soldat, tarzan ou robin des bois. La forêt était son terrain de jeu et les arbres formaient le décor. “Nous étions chevaliers, et on construisait un château avec tour de guet haut dans les arbres. Nous nous sentions aussi libres qu'un oiseau et le temps n'avait pas de prise sur nous.” Des années ont passé. Dominique est devenu ingénieur et a fait la connaissance de Karin. Elle était infirmière à temps plein et tous les deux aimaient voyager régulièrement et échapper à la «course aux rats» de notre société. Rafraîchissant et relaxant dans la nature était primordial. L’odeur de la forêt, le chant des oiseaux, et le charme d’un séjour dans une cabane en France, faisait rejaillir les mémoires de jeunesse chez Dominique. Après une aventure de cabane, ensemble avec leurs deux fils Kobe et Seppe, ils ont décidé de réaliser leur rêve dans les Ardennes belges. Sitting still was not for him. Together with a handful of friends he loved to romp, climb, play soldier, tarzan or robin hood. The forest was his playing field and the trees formed the background. “We were knights and built a castle with watchtower as our fortress high in the trees. We felt as free as a bird and time stood still. ” Years passed by. Dominique became an engineer and met Karin. She was a full-time nurse and they both loved to travel regularly to escape the ‘rat race’ of our society. Recharging and relaxing in nature were primary. The smell of the forest, the chirping of the birds and the charm of staying in a wooden cabin in France made Dominique relive his childhood memories.
